FATAL TRAFFIC ACCIDENT ON ALBION ROAD PULLMAN –
Pullman Police were dispatched to a two vehicle injury accident on the Albion Road on Monday Sept. 28th at 0827 hrs. The accident was located just inside the Pullman City Limits near the driveway to the USDA facility, about 2 miles West of SR27 (N. Grand).
The investigation showed that two vehicles were involved in the head on collision; an Eastbound Red 1998 Ford Explorer and a Westbound Green 1996 Honda Accord, both bearing Idaho License Plates. Both vehicles were operated by a lone male driver who appear to have been wearing seatbelts and both vehicle airbags were deployed. Both male drivers were transported by ambulance to Pullman Regional Hospital.
At about 0930 hours, the Pullman Police Department received word that one of the drivers had died, due to injuries sustained in the accident. That driver was identified, as Daniel Lewis Popp (38 years old) and believed to be a resident of Moscow Idaho. The other driver involved is Christopher Coffman (M/29) listing a Pullman address. Coffman’s medical condition is not known at this time.
The Albion Road was closed to assist with the investigation. The road was closed between SR27 (N. Grand) and Banner Road. The roadway was opened up to normal traffic at about 1:30 PM. The cause of the accident is still under investigation, and Pullman Police Department is being assisted by the Whitman County Sheriff’s Office.
