The Property and Evidence Unit of the Pullman Police Department is responsible for maintaining the integrity of evidence and the chain of custody of all property that comes into their possession in accordance with state laws, city ordinances, and departmental policies and procedures. The current property facility stores over 6,000 items which are stored per the following classifications:
From the initial placement of a property item within the facility, through all the transactions thereafter leading to either release, auction, or destruction the Property/Evidence Unit monitors and controls the activity through the use of a barcode evidence management system. The Evidence Unit is placed organizationally in Support Services and is staffed with one city employee, the Property and Evidence Specialist.

The following table reflects typical activity since implementation of the barcode management system, October 1, 2009. The statistics from 2009 reflect the massive effort of transferring existing property items into the new system in three short months at the end of 2009.
